My first outing with my quadcopter proved to be something of an enlightenment. After having read so many angry articles from people who see ‘drones’ as simply an invasion of privacy, it was fantastic to see the reaction of everyone I encountered.
I would like to think it was because most people on Earth see the technology behind quadcopters as an positive equal enabler of communication, rather than a negative threat to their wellbeing. It was noticeable that the crowd at the beach where I flew were from Brazil, Venezuela and Mexico.
I also think age played a large factor as almost everyone was well under 30, having grown up in a social culture that sees quadcopters as a natural extension of a grand ‘selfie’.
The reaction was so good, I almost had to tell the young Venezuelan guy to step back as he was so intrigued over what he could see if he world through the lens of the camera. Now, well within reach, is a communication technology that adapts well to both friendly story telling as well as objective large scale views of events.
It gave me heart to see that kids were embracing this technology, not running in fear of it as many in my generation appear to do.
This is going to be fun.
