Although we are almost half-way through one of the most amazing house sits anywhere on Earth, my mind keeps moving ahead and wondering what the next phase holds in store.
Diane and I were debating the merits of wandering south to Ecuador or back to Europe for the fall and winter season of 2015-2016. For one reason or another, both of us find ourselves being drawn back to Italy. Having traveled all over the world, we both acknowledge that something sparks for us there. It may be the art, the food, the landscape or the people – or, for that matter, all of the above! Whatever the cause, I think that may be what is in store for us.
Although we have experience traveling about in the northern areas from Piedmont to Tuscany, with brief trips to Rome, the south seems to be calling to us. As they say, if you like northern Italy, you will LOVE southern Italy! (Conversely, if northern Italy gets on your nerves, don’t bother venturing south of Rome!) I expect us to fall head over heels for the bootheel… and beyond.
I am toying with the idea of buying a car in Europe as it is cheaper (from a cursory appraisal) than renting one. I am researching insurance, registration (if we even can) and then other costs to arrive at a true figure to judge. Stay tuned… or let me know your experiences! I would love to hear them!
For now, Italy it is… that may change soon…
