Over the past few days, I have been reading and reviewing many different travel blogs, vlogs, and sites. One thing is for certain, there are A LOT of folks out there doing this. I did notice that there was a thread through them all that targeted specific audiences. Few, if any of the millennial readers of vagabrothers, or Hey Nadine are going to care about my perspective on the world. Likewise, the adventure tour folks who seem to run from adrenaline rush to adrenaline rush like Expert Vagabond share little of the same audience a middle aged couple that lives and works on the road.
I must say, I do admire them all for various reasons. I plan to leverage (read emulate) as much as I can from each.. taking what appeals to me and my demographic and leaving the cute, peppy youthful vigor to those who still possess it! I know I sound like an old curmudgeon, but I like to be honest about which ‘space’ to aim for.
Even though we are a bit older than he and his wife, we share mindspace with Mark Weins and his wife. Their site, blog, vlog, you name it over at Migrationology.com is an inspiration. The couple at What Doesn’t Suck also shares our travel ethos, if not a common desire for destinations. Then again, that is what gives the world texture: everyone is different, yet at our core we’re (almost) all the same.
Even more ‘market segmentation’ comes from our friends over at GypsyNesters, whose ‘angle’ is life after children. Neither of us ever had any children, so there was nothing to leave behind. Oddly, our family situations are such that there is no one to ‘miss’ when we’re gone!
The thing is, there is lots of “world” out there. It is rich with different interests and tastes – some shared with us, some not – and each has a place to be.
This is ours.
The future is now. We start here.
